Application Process
IMPORTANT: Before you apply, be certain that you have read and understand how student acceptance into the Davie County High School STEM Center will be determined as presented in the brochure and within information meetings. A STEM Center selection committee will review your:
- Submitted application
- Feedback from three 8th grade teachers (CORE and ENCORE teachers)
- EOG scores, current grades, attendance and behavior records
Parent Meetings Parents will learn more about the three Davie County public high school options: Davie High, Early College, and The STEM Center at Davie High.
|
Student Tours: 8th Grade students will take a field trip to Davie High School to learn about the high school and classes they are able to take as 9th graders. Students should arrive around 8:30 and tours will take place. Please have students broken into smaller groups with a teacher before they arrive. Our encore teachers typically visit with the group. Permission forms will need to be handed out to all students attending. |

STEP 1: Fill out the student application
Directions for Application: When you apply for college, technical school, or even a job, oftentimes you have to write. In that spirit, please take some time to think about and respond to the three questions included on the application, and write a well-developed paragraph for each. “Well-developed” means that every idea discussed in the paragraph is fully explained and supported with evidence and details that work together to prove your main idea. The goal of these responses is for the Davie High STEM Center to get to know you better, so remember that shorter answers will not be accepted. The committee will review your responses, and this information will be helpful in making an informed decision regarding your placement in the STEM Center.
STEP 2: You should receive an e-mail confirmation with your application attached. * If you do not receive e-mail confirmation please contact John Marshall at [email protected] as soon as possible.
Important Note: During the application process, you will select three of your 8th grade CORE and ENCORE teachers to submit feedback forms on your behalf. The purpose of this feedback form is to get first-hand information from teachers about your personal character and academic ability in the classroom. This information will be used to help the STEM Center committee make an informed decision on placement. Please detach and give these sheets to the appropriate teachers.
STEP 3: Teacher Feedback: The window for teachers to provide feedback on each student.
STEP 4: Committee Meetings and Student Placement Decisions
STEP 5: Notification (by letter of acceptance, decline or waiting list) of STEM Center Placement Decision -
